چکیده

Either passive calibration targets are expensive and complex to manufacture or their bistatic RCS levels are significantly lower than the monostatic RCS levels of targets such as spheres, dihedraland trihedral corner reflectors. In this paper the performance of an active calibration target with relative high bistatic RCS values is illustrated as a reference target for bistatic RCS measurements. The reference target is simple to manufacture, operates over a wide frequency range and can be configured to calibrate all four polarizations (VV, HH, HV and VH). Bistatic RCS measurements of canonical targets, performed in a controlled environment, are calibrated with the reference target and the results are compared to simulated results using FEKO.

Accurate Analysis of Target Characteristic in Bistatic SAR Images: A Dihedral Corner Reflectors Case

The dihedral corner reflectors are the basic geometric structure of many targets and are the main contributions of radar cross section (RCS) in the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. In stealth technologies, the elaborate design of the dihedral corners with different opening angles is a useful approach to reduce the high RCS generated by multiple reflections. As bistatic synthetic aperture ...

A Bistatic HF Radar for Current Mapping and Robust Ship Tracking

A bistatic High Frequency (HF, or 3-30 megahertz band) radar has been developed for dual-use application to ocean current mapping and ship vector tracking. The radar can be deployed in a multi-frequency version, allowing it to sample ocean currents at different depths between 20 centimeters and 3 meters, and thus map ocean current vertical shear. The multi-frequency feature allows for more robu...

Modified Physical Optics Approximation for RCS Calculation of Electrically Large Objects with Coated Dielectric

The Radar Cross Section of a target plays an important role in the detection of targets by radars‎. ‎This paper presents a new method to predict the bistatic and monostatic RCS of coated electrically large objects. ‎The bodies can be covered by lossy electric and/or magnetic Radar Absorbing Materials (RAMs)‎. ‎These materials can be approximated by the Fresnel reflection coefficients‎. ‎The pro...

Feasibility of Air Target Detection Using GPS as a Bistatic Radar

The feasibility of using GPS as a bistatic radar illuminator for the purposes of air target detection is examined. The power budget analysis is first performed assuming the use of a single satellite, but is followed by a discussion of the expected improvements when multiple satellites are employed. The analysis includes the effect of GPS signal strength dynamic range, also known as the ‘near-fa...
